Grief Relief: Finding Guidance in Yoga

It is generally accepted that grief refers to the emotional and psychological symptoms experienced after the death of a person. Yet the mind and the body react with grief to the loss of a pet, a job, a dream or even simply the youth. Even though grieving is thought to be mostly emotional, it also has specific physical symptoms. Yoga can be instrumental in addressing the symptoms of grief because it focuses on mind, body, and spirit, the three areas where grief manifests.
This retreat provides participants with techniques for transforming grief into a source of self-knowledge. It includes sharing and normalizing grief, learning yogic tools that address the delicate endocrine mechanisms responsible for the grief reaction, and promoting movement in the muscles that are involved in grief.
The structured and confidential setting of this retreat provides an opportunity to share grief unmasked, a rare occasion in regular life. Joining together with others who are grieving can itself be a source of comfort and strength. The combination of theoretical lecture and experiential work can help the heart of anyone who is grieving a loss or those working with them. We will together explore how Yoga philosophy and practice can assist one in going through difficult times.
